About Us

Louisiana DanceSport

Louisiana DanceSport was organized in 2003 as a Louisiana non-profit corporation and has been
granted tax-exempt status as a charity by the Internal Revenue Service. It was established in
order to promote ballroom dancing and to provide opportunities for amateur competitors to
participate in both amateur and pro-am competitions at a reasonable cost. Over the last few
years, it has also focused on supporting Dancing Classrooms, as well as the expansion of youth
dancesport and social dancing throughout the state. In addition, Louisiana DanceSport provides
opportunities for students to dance in competition with their teachers and, along with other
organizers, plans to build this aspect of dancesport competition. Louisiana DanceSport, for
Chapter 5031 of USA Dance, serves as the organizer of the USA Dance Gumbo DanceSport
Championships, affectionately known as the "Gumbo of Ballroom," a qualifying event for the
USA Dance National Championships.
In partnership with USA Dance Chapter 5031, our board of directors is dedicated to the
expansion of ballroom as a sport, as a hobby and as a means of socializing with friends. Our
intention is to serve Louisiana and the United States in an effort to bring together dancers who
share a passion for ballroom dancing and to foster the education of young people in an activity
that will last throughout their lives. Our vision is to eventually see ballroom practiced as a sport
within our local schools.
Our first president was Maurice Doyle, who helped to launch the corporation and who provided
much of the early vision and leadership. Following his untimely death, Ann Durocher stepped
up to the role of president and has pulled together a tremendous team of talented individuals who
all share these common goals.
